Bhut jolokia (also known as Ghost Pepper) has only recently lost the top spot as the world's hottest chilli (as recognised by Guinness World Records). Try it if you dare!

Here's our list of chillies in order of hottest (starting with the hottest of the hot) - Carolina Reaper, Bhut Jolokia, Habanero Red, Red Hot Pepper, Jalapeno Red Flame and Jalapeno.

Pots, tubs and window boxes

Planting Instructions

  • Grows to a height of 160-180cm
  • Plant in raised bed or large container in full sun
  • Plant 60-80cm apart
  • Plant near bee-friendly plants to encourage pollination. Or self-pollinate with paint brush
  • Stake plant to one metre
  • Keep soil moist
  • Cut, rather than pull, the fruit from the plant
