Kahikatea is New Zealand's tallest indigenous tree and has been around for more than 160 million years. It is sometimes called the dinosaur tree because it existed alongside the dinosaurs during the Jurassic period. Once fully grown, it has a tall, straight trunk with no lower branches. It produces lots of red berries in autumn.
